Entrance Mats

Cindy wrote:

Entrance mats can be a great way to greet your guests with style, and your options are pretty much limitless. You can get anything from a monogrammed door mat to plain rubber door mats designed to keep the dirt outside. You can dress up your doorstep with a personalized door mat, stenciled with any saying, name, quote, or design you like, or you can go with one of the many simple welcome door mats available.

Of course the function of a door mat goes beyond just another decorative piece to spruce up your home. They are functional, as well. Outdoor door mats are made of special materials designed to help clean dirt and debris off of the bottom of shoes before those messy soles walk all over your beautiful carpet. Outdoor floor mats can be made of any of several materials, including rubber, nylon, fibers, or even aluminum. You can make a statement with a large door mat, of course, or go the more subtle route with simple front door mats.

There are several specialty companies online that allow you to get entry mats or door mats personalized to your liking. These personalized mats can include family or business names, or even a special message reminding guests to keep the dog or cat indoors. You can get as creative or as simple as you like with your personalization!

Entrance mats are not just limited to outside your door, however. It is becoming more and more common to place a mat or rug just inside the front door, though indoor mats are generally made of a different material than the traditional outdoor mats. Indoor mats are more decorative than functional, and are meant to be used as part of decor rather than a place to wipe messy feet. These indoor entry mats come in handy in places where a mat is useful, but not needed to clean up dirty shoes. These places might include an attached garage or laundry room, where an entry mat adds a touch of decorum.

Regardless of which type of door mat you choose to buy, you'll want to make sure it's made from quality, durable materials, so it will last you a long time. You can find cheaper mats out there, but will find yourself replacing them more often than you should, which will end up costing you more money in the long run. Before buying, consider where the mat will be placed and how much use it will get. A very low traffic area, for instance, could use a lighter material, while a heavy traffic area may require heavier materials like rubber or thick fiber.

We got our monogrammed door mat done up in a style that suits our personalities to a tee! I know it's silly, but I absolutely love our door mat!

I have never understood the use of indoor door mats. It's like those towels in the bathroom you aren't allowed to touch. They make no sense!

I usually just grab a piece of scrap fabric from the hardware store and use that as a doormat. Costs me a few bucks to replace every few months, and it's totally worth it.

My grandmother still has the same doormat she has had since I was little. I have no idea what it's made of, but it's lasted this long, so it must be super-strength!
